Bradbury Apprenticeship Stories: Katie

“My name is Katie, I am 23 years old, and I am a Marketing Executive at Bradbury Group, whilst studying a Level 3 NVQ in Marketing.

I chose to do an apprenticeship after attending university for a year, as I realised this path wasn’t suited to me, and the qualifications I studied weren’t aligned with the career I hoped to pursue. I wanted to be able to develop my skills outside of the classroom, so I knew that an apprenticeship would be the best route for me.

After gaining work experience in several sectors such as business administration, sales and marketing, I was able to find my passion in the latter and decided to pursue a career in this area. In 2015, I enrolled at North Lindsey College and through the college discovered that Bradbury was looking to hire a marketing apprentice, and I applied for the position straight away!

As an apprentice I am able to benefit from gaining practical work experience, earning money and developing relevant skills, all whilst attaining the relevant qualification. My apprenticeship at Bradbury has enabled me to work with a lot of great people, who have built up my knowledge in marketing, business, and the industry, as well as helping to improve my confidence. My day-to-day responsibilities include designing product brochures and company literature, editing the website, writing content for the blog, posting on social media, and creating internal documents.

Being an apprentice has been an insightful experience so far, allowing me to secure a permanent position with Bradbury, so that I am able to continue my work for the Group even after completing my apprenticeship in May. I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to anybody wanting a career in a certain industry, as you can study whilst getting real life working experience, and for young people that can’t decide between going to college and getting a job.

An apprenticeship can be very stressful at times, juggling my company workloads, with my college workloads. Ultimately I know that it will be worth it in the end!”
