Emirates Air Line

The Emirates Air Line is the UK’s first and only cable car network. It sits 90 metres above the River Thames, in the heart of London. The £44million project was completed in time for the 2012 London Olympic Games, and is operated by Transport for London. The network includes 24 gondolas, each with a maximum capacity of 10 passengers. As such, the line can carry up to an estimated 2,500 people per hour from Emirates Greenwich Peninsula for the O2 Arena to the Emirates Royal Docks and the Excel Arena.

The Solution

In total, 17 Martin Roberts stainless steel doors were installed in the terminal buildings. Martin Roberts steel doors and frames provide exceptional levels of security and protection against vandalism, fire and general wear and tear. All doorsets are custom-made to suit individual requirements, and are designed, tested and certified to suit the most challenging internal and external applications.

Stuart Hubert, Sales Director at Martin Roberts Doors said: “The focus is on providing a whole service –from advising on the best technology for the environment and specific requirements, to safe and secure installation, and the ongoing provision of excellent service and support.

The specific challenges for this project were in working to extremely strict deadlines and managing the logistical hurdles of working across both sides of the Thames. Martin Roberts is proud of their achievements, and delighted to have been part of the development of such an iconic transport system.”
