The Challenge

Security formed a major part of the brief for Terminal 5 due to heightening terrorist threats, resulting in the government’s ongoing threat assessment level being classed as ‘severe’. The challenge was to strike a balance between easy public access and high security.

The Solution

Martin Roberts fire and acoustic doorsets were installed in customer interface areas, toilet blocks, stairwells, and multi-storey car parks.

Working in airports presented huge logistical issues that are not normally found on other construction projects, such as delivery restrictions, and the complexity and volume of other works being carried out during door installation, due to the large footprints of airport sites. We ensured that full-time management and supervisory teams were present to oversee the installation of the completed doorsets, and to ensure that high quality, safe, and secure solutions were delivered.

Martin Roberts steel doorsets are ideal for the transportation sector due to the demanding criteria set by high volumes of traffic, leading to wear and tear. Steel doors were chosen for their combination of strength, durability and aesthetics, providing innovative high-performance door products for various applications.
